‘I will use IGR as benchmark for 2016 budget’
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has pledged that his administration would use the Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR), as a benchmark for the 2016 budget.
Ortom who dropped the hint yesterday at a reception organised in honour of his Principal Private Secretary, Stephen Amase, explained that the decision was necessary in view of the economic realities in the country, which had even made payment of salaries difficult.
“In view of the dwindling allocation from the Federation Account which has made the payment of salaries and the execution of projects difficult, we need to imbibe financial discipline to avoid unnecessary expenditure by the government, in order to adjust to the current realities,” he explained.
He said that the state government would soon embark on aggressive ways in generating internal revenue to shift the attention and avoid over dependence on the federal allocation.
In a remark, at the occasion Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Terkimbi Kyange assured the people of the state that the legislature would continue to ensure that they got the best from the present administration.
