‘Idleness, causes of violence among South East youths’
Inadequate sensitisation and idleness are to blame for the growing youths restiveness and violence in the south-east.
Chairman of the Integrity Movement, a non-governmental organization, Mr. Augustine Odenigbo, who disclosed in Enugu yesterday, said there was a serious gap between the government and the masses, which often led youths to resort to violence.
According to Odenigbo, Integrity Movement would serve as a “bridge” between government and masses, to educate the citizens on activities of government with a view to creating in them a sense of belonging.
He added that to get them meaningfully engaged, the group was on the verge of training and impacting the youths with agricultural and vocational skills, so that at the end of the day, they would be grouped into cooperatives to attract support and funding from government.
He said: “Complaining always is not the solution, when things are hard like this. We ought to be innovative. Adversity should bring about resourcefulness and this is the bedrock of economic development of a nation.
There are so many Nigerians who have the money but don’t know how to invest it. So, we would go into the communities to sensitise the people on government programmes and activities. We are trying to bridge the gap in information management.”
