The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has reiterated the call on President Bola Tinubu to immediately reinstate Siminilayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State to ensure good governance.

IYC President, Dr. Theophilus Alaye, who spoke yesterday in Port Harcourt during the 57th Adaka Boro Day celebration themed “Ijaw Nation Strength: A Pathway for Unity and Solidarity,” argued that the people of Rivers State deserve lawful governance that would give the people the needed dividend of democracy and continuity of people-oriented development.

Calling for the removal of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), they argued that the measure will fast-track the delivery of more impactful signature projects that will directly benefit oil-producing communities.

IYC further called for an increase in the annual budgetary allocation to the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) to ensure its objectives are fully achieved.

Stating that PAP has been instrumental in sustaining peace and rehabilitating ex-agitators across the Niger Delta, the group said that the current funding level is inadequate to meet the growing demands of reintegration, educational training, and empowerment of beneficiaries.

IYC demanded additional job opportunities for agitators in the Niger Delta region, particularly the Ijaw nationality, into the PAP as part of ongoing efforts to keep the peace in the region.

They thereby pointed out that the East-West Road remains a lifeline to the economy of the Niger Delta and the entire South-South region, saying its incomplete state continues to endanger lives and hamper development.
