In commemoration of International Youth Day 2024, the Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club has launched its ‘Tech Spark’ programme.
This impactful 3-month initiative aims to make a tangible difference in the lives of underserved and aspiring teenagers in Lagos by equipping them with essential technology skills, preparing them for Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
As a dedicated volunteer group and the local chapter of the world’s largest humanitarian organization, Lions Club International (Lions District 404 B2 Nigeria), the Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club is committed to serving humanity. According to Club President, Lion Adeola Boluogun, the program’s core goal is clear: to empower teenagers (ages 13-19) from underserved communities in Ikeja with foundational and practical skills in cybersecurity, product management, business analysis, and general digital literacy. This initiative aims to foster their career readiness and unlock their entrepreneurial potential within the digital economy.
The ‘Ikeja Tech Spark’ program is built on four key principles: practicality, engagement, mentorship, and holistic development. It emphasizes hands-on application, real-world scenarios, and interactive learning. Participants will benefit from consistent guidance and support from experienced professionals, ensuring they develop not only technical skills but also crucial abilities like critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
“We are incredibly blessed to have secured volunteers from the Ikeja Tech Community, Lions Club members with relevant expertise, and professionals from local businesses,” President Boluogun stated. “Special appreciation goes to Michael Arowolo, our Cyber Risk & Security Coach and Mentor; Victor Ndukwe, our Product & Business Analysis Coach and Mentor; and Hammed Afenifere, who will be supporting the teenagers with Applied Skills & Career Readiness.”
Throughout the program, participants will be matched with dedicated mentors, engaging in structured bi-weekly check-ins, goal setting, skill development, networking, and career guidance. The journey culminates in a capstone project where teams apply their newly acquired skills to real-world problems. These projects will then be showcased to mentors, club members, and invited guests at the end of the 12-week program, celebrating their achievements and potential.
The Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club believes in investing in the future of Nigerian youth, laying the groundwork for a more digitally empowered and prosperous community.
