Old warhorse, Faith Ikidi is among 40 players invited by Super Falcons interim coach, Florence Omagbemi for 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against either of Senegal or Guinea.

Ikidi, who play for Pitea FC, Sweden, is making a return to the squad after a long time to fight for a place in Falcons defence. The squad is made up with majority of players that participated at the last FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada and those who featured at the All African Games in Congo.

However, the team technical crew made up of US-based coach Omagbemi, former goalie Ann Chijine and ex-captain Perpetua Nkwocha did not look the direction of goalkeepers Precious Dede, Tochukwu Oluehi and Portsmouth Ladies of England player, Ini-Abasi Umotong.

Dede could not make the team to last year’s All African Games in Congo Brazzaville due to what an official described as ‘over bearing influence’ in the team. Her second in command, Tochukwu, who was first choice goalie in Congo put up a disappointing performance, which saw the team returned home from the All African Games without any colour of medal.

The seven –time champions (Super Falcons) have drawn a bye into the second round of the qualifying series, with the final competition to hold in Cameroon in November.

The senior women teams of Senegal and Guinea will contend over two legs this month (March), with the winner to battle the Super Falcons in home-and-away contests between April 4 and 12.

All invited players are expected to report at Serob Legacy Hotel, Wuye, Abuja today, March 1.

Those invited are Ibubeleye Whyte (Rivers Angels); Sandra Chichi (Bayelsa Queens); Christy Ohiaeriaku (Osun Babes); Onyinyechukwu Okeke (Inneh Queens); Onome Ebi (FC Minsk, Belarus); Blessing Edoho (Pelican Stars); Josephine Chukwunonye (Vittsjoe GIK, Sweden); Osinachi Ohale (Rivers Angels); Ngozi Ebere (PSG Ladies, France); and Sarah Nnodim (Nasarawa Amazons).
