The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed the decision of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to sack Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and appoint Arch. Setonji Koshoedo as his replacement.
Reacting to the development, the Imo PDP Interim Chairman, Chris Odoemenan, welcomed the resolution, stating that it marked a new beginning for the party in the state.
He said the entire party structure in Imo, including the 27 local government caretaker committees, had passed a vote of confidence in the NWC’s action.
“The Imo Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Interim Committee led by Chris Odoemenan, alongside the 27 local government Caretaker Committee today passed a vote of confidence on the PDP NWC over the unanimous appointment of Arch. Setonji Koshoedo, as the substantive National Secretary of the party,” a statement issued after the committee’s emergency meeting in Owerri read.
The leadership also pledged full loyalty to the new National Secretary, as well as Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato in the House of Representatives and is regarded as the leader of the PDP in the state.
“The PDP Interim EXCO at their emergency meeting held this evening (Tuesday) in Owerri, Imo State pledged their support to the State Leader and only surviving PDP public elected officer, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere (Ideato Rep) for his commitment,” Odoemenan said.
The party further urged the NWC to ratify the state interim executive committee as nominated by Imo PDP leaders during the party’s upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
“With Samuel Anyanwu now placed where he belongs, it is our firm belief and resolve that internal skirmishes in our state chapter of the party are now fully settled and PDP will rebound for the electoral contests ahead in Imo,” Odoemenan added.
