INEC declares Takai constituency election inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, declared the election into Takai constituency seat of Kano State House of Assembly inconclusive.

The Returning Officer (RO), Prof. Usman Ibrahim of Bayero University Kano (BUK), announced this in Takai INEC office.

“Even as the APC candidate, Musa Ali, scored 24,573 votes, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate scored 23,569 votes, we still have no option than to declare the poll inconclusive because election in five polling units were cancelled due to over-voting. The election will be conducted again in the five polling units,” Ibrahim said.

Meanwhile, INEC has declared Garba Gwarmai of the APC as winner of the Tsanyawa/Kuchi constituency seat in the Assembly. Declaring the result at INEC’s Collation Centre in Tsanyawa, the RO, Prof. Ganiyu Shokobi of BUK, said Gwarmai secured 31,471 votes to beat his closest opponent, Mohammed Ali of NNPP, who scored 27,864 votes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bello Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 136 votes. INEC also declared the results of the Shanono/Bagwai constituency election.

Prof. Ahmed Iliyasu of BUK declared Ibrahim Kundila of APC as winner of the election, after polling 38,021 votes ahead of Musa Aliyu of NNPP, who scored 29,983 votes.

In a related development the newly-elected member of the House of Representatives for llorin East/South Federal Constituency, Yinka Aluko, has commended INEC for its performance during Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Aluko, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin, yesterday, noted that all elections conducted in Kwara were peaceful, transparent and acceptable.

NAN reports that all party agents interviewed during the election expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the polls.

INEC has also declared Jacob Ajegena-Kudu of APC as the winner of Nasarawa-Eggon East Constituency in Nasarawa State. The RO, Mba Moses-Anayo, made the declaration, yesterday, at Nassarawa-Eggon Local Council collation centre.

Moses-Anayo said the Ajegena-Kudu polled 11,114 to defeat his closest rival, Mohammed Ibrahim of PDP who got 10, 580 votes. He added: “Ajegena-Kudu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes in the election, is hereby declared winner and returned elected.”
