INEC officials arrive early for accreditation at Egbeda, Lagos
Officials of INEC arrived as early as 7 a.m. at various polling units in Egbeda, Alimosho Local Government Area (LGA) of Lagos State, on Saturday for voters’ accreditation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that accreditation started at various polling centres around 8 a.m., although the exercise witnessed a low voter turnout.
Mr Gbenga Adebambo, a 65-year-old retired civil servant, who was accredited at Ward E Unit 059, Egbeda, said that the low turnout might be due to the late arrival of INEC officials during the last elections.
He expressed optimism that more voters would come out for accreditation, which was expected to end by 1 p.m.
“We give kudos to INEC for the development; at least the accreditation started at the appropriate time, unlike last election where we had to wait for them till 9 a.m.
“I know that people will still come out for accreditation, the low turnout may be as a result of what they experienced during the last election,” he said.
NAN also reports that the use of card reader for voter accreditation was hitch-free at various polling units in the Egbeda neighbourhood.
