Insecurity: We’ll carry out Tinubu’s directives to the latter, says DHQ

The Nigerian military remains fully committed to executing the presidential directive aimed at bolstering national security and curbing threats to the country’s peace and stability, the Defence Headquarters has assured.

This assurance was given by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, during a media briefing held in Abuja on Thursday.

While fielding questions from newsmen, Kangye emphasized the critical role of the media in shaping public perception and enhancing the credibility of military operations.

“When we tell the story ourselves, sometimes it doesn’t carry as much weight. But when people like you, journalists, tell it, the message lands better,” he said, urging the media to continue providing accurate and contextual reports on security operations.

Speaking on the readiness and ongoing efforts of the military to meet the nation’s security demands, Kangye noted that the Armed Forces are actively implementing strategies aligned with the presidential mandate.

“Are we ready to do it? Have we started doing it? Yes. As I speak to you now, the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Operations, and other key officers have been in strategic sessions—some of them for the past three or four years—working to assess situations and close gaps to ensure full compliance with the presidential directive,” he affirmed.

He reiterated that both the Nigerian Army and Air Force are actively engaged in operational planning and implementation to tackle emerging and ongoing security threats.

“They are not just strategizing—they are working around the clock to ensure this directive is carried out to the letter,” Kangye stated.

The director did not specify the details of the presidential directive but stressed the ongoing collaboration among the various arms of the military and other security agencies in addressing national security challenges.

Kangye’s remarks are coming amid heightened concerns over insecurity across parts of Nigeria, with citizens and stakeholders calling for more visible and effective military interventions.

President Bola Tinubu had ordered a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s national security strategy.

The directive, which was announced after the Easter break, specifically targets the escalating violence in Borno, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states.
