Kano Emirship: Group cautions against selfish interest among key actors

A group ‘One Kano Agenda’ cautioned actors in the prolonged emirate tussle to consider the interest of the state above personal ulterior motives.

The group challenged the Federal and Kano State Government to jettison their political interest but amicably resolved the royal rubble to relieve the mounting tension ahead of the Supreme Court Judgment.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday in Kano, Amb Abbas Abdullahi, Director General of One Kano Agenda, worried the emirate issue has stirred tensions, sparked public debates and regrettably fueled discord among the people in the state.

The leader of the group insisted the raging crisis must be carefully managed so that the political manipulation already impeded will not erode the enduring peace and unity in Kano.
Abdullahi cautioned leaders of thought including religious, traditional, and key stakeholders not to allow themselves to be used by selfish politicians to score their political gains.

According to him, “The matter of our traditional institution is one that deserves deep respect and careful handling. The Emirate is not just a cultural symbol, it represents centuries of governance values and leadership.

“Attempts to politicize or exploit this heritage for personal or partisan gain risk harming the social fabric of our state. Let it be clear the peace and dignity of Kano must never be sacrificed for any agenda.

“At this critical juncture, we call on all youth, civil society groups, religious leaders, political actors, and traditional stakeholders, to rise above divisions and put Kano first; Let us not allow any individual or institution to drive a wedge between us. The strength of Kano has always been in its people’s diverse resilient and unity.”

He called on governments and the respected elders of Northern extraction to take a proactive steps in encouraging peaceful dialogue among all relevant stakeholders to resolve the emirate crisis.

He said national peace begins with local harmony and the restoration of calm in Kano remains a matter of national interest.
