TO further strengthen its economy, Lagos State government has disclosed her readiness to boost domestic tourism.

Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Folorunsho Coker made this disclosure in an interview with The Guardian.

He said, his ministry is making drastic move to boost the economy of the state through domestic tourism.

Coker, who described Lagos is the Dubai of Africa, said the State needs to make good use of her population by encouraging domestic tourism.

To actualise this goal of promoting domestic tourism, Coker disclosed that his ministry has commissioned some people to do a documentary on the best bukas in Lagos.

He said, details of where to get amala with gbegiri and other good food in Lagos will be included in the documentary.

According to him, the essence of this documentary is to encourage food tour in Lagos.

Stating that many residents of Lagos did not know what is available in Lagos, Coker said, his desire is to let the people of Lagos know what is good in Lagos and where to get them.

“When it is good enough in Lagos, Nigerians will come to Lagos. When it gets better, other Africans, will come to Lagos. By then, Lagos will become a known brand globally.

“Lagos has 20 million people and if five or ten million people spend one, two or five thousand naira on domestic tourism, it will go extra mile in boosting the economy of the State.  If we are doing it well enough in Lagos, people from Ogun, Oyo, and Kwara will come to Lagos as tourists.

He said Lagos can be the Dubai of Africa if it explores the area of domestic tourism.

“Lagos is the home of Nollywood, and Nollywood dominates Africa in terms of home movies, it’s the third in the world. We also know that Lagos is the home of music industry. The industry that dominates Africa is resident in Lagos”.
