LG poll: Lagos APC leaders pledge dialogue as Agege members protest candidate imposition

Party inaugurates 40-man campaign council

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, yesterday, promised to address the grievances raised by members from Agege Local Council and Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) over the party’s recent council primaries ahead of the July 12 council elections.

The protesters, under the banner of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the primaries, alleging that candidates were imposed without broad consultation.

They accused a dominant political bloc, allegedly loyal to Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, of unilaterally determining the party’s candidates for the elections.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, who received the protesters at the APC’s state secretariat, commended their peaceful approach and assured them that their petition would be sent to the appropriate party organs.

Also addressing the group, APC’s State Secretary, Adeola Jokomba, pledged that the issues raised would be resolved through dialogue, describing the crisis as a “family matter.”

However, despite the assurances, the group issued a three-day ultimatum, warning that failure to respond to their request, could lead to escalated action.

The protesters reaffirmed their commitment to staying within the APC’s fold. The PCC’s Coordinator for Orile-Agege, Adetunji Akinyemi, warned that over 5,000 members would not support the party in the 2027 general elections unless there is a more equitable sharing of positions.

He specifically criticised the selection of Tunde Azeez as chairmanship candidate, alleging that he had not been active in the community and was unfit for the position due to ill health.

IN another development, the state chapter of the APC has inaugurated a 40-member campaign council to spearhead the party’s campaign for the upcoming council elections.

The immediate past State Chairman of the party and former Commissioner for Home Affairs, Babatunde Balogun, chairs the council, while the Chairman of Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) serves as Secretary.

In a statement, yesterday, by the party’s spokesperson, Oluseye Oladejo, the campaign council is divided into six directorates, namely Mobilisation, Finance, Security, Media and Publicity, Electoral, and Special Duties, headed by Oyinlomo Danmole, Olufemi Daramola, Dr Razak Balogun, Mogaji Oluseye Oladejo, Ademola Sadiq and Dr Lateef Ibirogba respectively.

The party has also appointed coordinators for each senatorial district. Adejoke Orelope Adefulire and Abimbola Saliu-Hundeyin will co-ordinate Lagos West Senatorial District, while Abayomi Daramola and Bolanle Olusanya will co-ordinate Lagos Central and East Senatorial Districts respectively. Chief Sunday Aboyade and Fatai Ayoola are the deputy coordinators for Lagos West Senatorial District.

In his remarks, the State Chairman congratulated the members on their appointment and urged them to hit the ground running, given the proximity of the election.

He stressed the need for the council to take the campaign to all corners of the state, showcasing the party’s achievements and mobilising the electorate to vote massively for APC.
