NAHCON inaugurates medical team for 2025 Hajj

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has inaugurated the Principal Officers of the National Medical Team (NMT) and its Steering Committee ahead of the 2025 Hajj operations.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, is part of preparations for the inaugural airlift of Nigerian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia on May 9.

An official of NAHCON’s Information and Publications Division, Shafii Sani Mohammed, in a statement, Friday, disclosed that NAHCON Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, described the assignment as a sacred trust, while harging the officers to embrace sincerity, patience, and unwavering dedication in serving the guests of Allah (SWT).

Also speaking, Commissioner for Planning, Research, Statistics, Information and Library Services (PRSILS), Professor Abubakar Yagawal, stressed the divine nature of the team’s selection and the need to protect the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims throughout the exercise.

Commissioner for Operations, Inspectorate and Licensing (OIL), Prince Anofiu Olarewaju Elegushi, and the Commissioner for Policy, Personnel, Management and Finance (PPMF), Alhaji Aliu Abdul-Razak, called on the newly inaugurated officers to discharge their duties diligently, with a strong sense of responsibility and the fear of Allah.

Speaking on behalf of the medical professionals, Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dumbulwa described the Hajj assignment as a journey from sunrise to sunset, noting that, “What happens in between defines the team’s true impact. We have been entrusted with an amana to provide care, protection, and medical support to pilgrims who have sacrificed for this spiritual journey.”

The Steering Committee of the National Medical Team has been tasked with overseeing the selection, screening, and orientation of medical applicants and developing and implementing the broader medical strategy for the 2025 Hajj.

It is also responsible for test-running and integrating the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system into NAHCON’s operational framework.

In addition, the committee will facilitate passport data capture and visa processing for medical personnel and ensure full compliance with NAHCON’s medical screening protocols.

The panel will also handle other responsibilities as assigned by the Commission to ensure a seamless and spiritually guided healthcare operation during the pilgrimage.
