NBBF promises exciting Zenith Bank women basketball league

The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), has stated that the 2016 Zenith Bank national women basketball league, scheduled to dunk off in Abuja on March 18, will be filled with fun and excitement.

The championship, which is organized to develop and churn out talented female basketball players, will feature top basketball clubs across the country.

Speaking in Lagos yesterday, President of NBBF, Tijjani Umar, noted that the female basketball league had put Nigeria players on right track over the years.

“NBBF is proud to be associated with Zenith Bank in the area of sponsoring the female basketball league. This year edition will be interesting, as plans have been put in place to invest more resources to enable the players, coaches and spectators enjoy the league.

“The first phase of the league will commence in Abuja on March 18, while the second phase will hold in Port Harcourt and the final in Lagos. There will be a brake in May to allow some players that are playing for the national team participate in the Olympics Games. NBBF will not relent in supporting all the clubs participating in the league,” he said.

Group Managing Director, Zenith Bank, Peter Amangbo, said Zenith Bank was delighted to assist Nigeria girls realize their dreams in basketball.

“This year edition will be more exciting as the bank has staked N35 million for the championship. We are also ready to give support to the female national team as they prepare to qualify for the Rio Olympics,” he stated.
