NDLEA busts multiple drug rings, seizes cannabis, other narcotics nationwide

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended two young women, Favour Joy and Joy Igwe, alongside a male driver, Atari Israel, 45, after discovering nine kilogrammes of Loud in the spare tyre compartment of an Audi station wagon car with registration number AAA 975 XU.

The arrest occurred on Tuesday, June 3, at Ikpoba Hill, Benin City, Edo State.

In addition to the Loud, the NDLEA recovered 106.57kg of skunk, one kilogramme of Loud, 800 grammes of Colorado, and 302 grammes of methamphetamine from the suspects.

Separately, NDLEA officers intercepted 66 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, disguised as green tea at the Import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos. The seizure, made on Thursday, June 5, 2025, was based on intelligence received prior to the arrival of the consignment at the cargo wing of the airport on May 11. After maintaining surveillance for over three weeks, NDLEA operatives conducted a joint examination with other stakeholders, uncovering 62.20kg of Loud concealed within green tea packaging from Thailand via the United Arab Emirates on an Emirates Airlines flight.

In Lagos, another operation on Monday, June 2, led to the interception of a 1,665kg consignment of skunk along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway. Two suspects, Gidado Abdulrasaq Ayinde and Obanla Oluwafemi, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

In Kaduna State, the NDLEA arrested 29-year-old Goodluck Nnaemeka on Tuesday, June 3, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. He was found in possession of 612 bottles of codeine-based syrup and 2,970 pills of flunitrazepam. That same day, a 52-year-old wanted drug dealer, Kabiru Musa, also known as KB, was arrested at Kurmin Mashi. A total of 25.7kg of skunk had been previously recovered from his base.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy across the country. Sensitisation lectures were delivered to students and staff at various institutions, including Sir Usman Nagogo College of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Katsina, Fountain of Knowledge International Academy in Ebonyi, and Millennium High School in Lagos.

Additionally, the Zone 13 Command of NDLEA paid a WADA advocacy visit to the Amayanabo of Nembe Kingdom, Dr Edmund Dakoru, Mingi XII, in Nembe, Bayelsa State.
