NDYC calls for investigation, prosecution over inciting statements

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has condemned former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s call for Nigerians to employ “brutal force” to seize power from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by 2027.

The group in a statement by its National Coordinator, Israel Uwejeyan described such utterances as a brazen attack on democracy and a direct incitement to violence.

The NDYC vowed to resist any attempt by Amaechi or other politicians to drag Nigeria into chaos through reckless utterances.

Uwejeyan emphasized that Amaechi’s statement exposing his willingness for politicians to “steal, maim, and kill” to remain in power is irresponsible and treasonous.

The NDYCchallenged Amaechi to account for his eight-year tenure as Governor of Rivers State.

The NDYC called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute Amaechi for his inciting statements, emphasizing that no individual is above the law.

“The group remains committed to defending Nigeria’s democracy against any threat and any attempt to destabilise the country will be met with stiff resistance.”
