NGO recommends life imprisonment for rapists
As part of effort to stamp out violence and rape against the opposite sex, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Hope for Family Development Initiative (HFDI) has suggested life imprisonment as penalty for offenders in the country.
The NGO described rape as a serious offence and declared that rapists
should henceforth be kept out of circulation to sanitize the country from immoral acts.
Delivering a lecture entitled “The Elimination of Violence against Women” at a sensitization programme organized by the HFDI, an official
of the NGO; Dr (Mrs) Abiola Olarinre noted stringent measures including
life imprisonment should be meted out to rapists to serve as deterrent
She appealed to members of the National Assembly to enact law that will give serious punishment to rapists, just as he called on all the three tiers of government to ensure that necessary measures are taken to end rape cases in the country.
