The Gender and Domestic Violence Department of Ministry of Justice, Niger State, has said it recorded over 1,300 gender-based violence cases within three years of its establishment.

Director of the department, Mairo Mohammed Man, revealed this to The Guardian in Minna.

Mairo lamented that gender-based violence is on the increase, hence the need for relevant agencies to synergise and tackle it.

Mairo, a legal practitioner, said there were other cases of gender-based violence that were not being reported.

She maintained that her department was not relenting and would do all that is necessary to ensure any person found culpable faces the full wrath of the law.

“Gender violence emanates from disagreements between spouses, house maintenance crisis, and family interference, among others, she explained.”

She reiterated that no stone would be left unturned in the fight against the menace.

Mairo urged stakeholders to support her department in its quest to win the fight against gender-based violence and its harmful effects on many homes.

She added: “My department, since it was established in 2020, has handled over 1,000 domestic violence cases.
