The Nigeria Olympian Association (NOA) has announced it will hold a three-day national convention from July 22 to 24 at Zeus Paradise Hotel, Mabushi, Abuja.
The event is expected to bring together both past and present Olympians for discussions focused on the future of sports development in Nigeria.
It will also provide a forum to foster collaboration, share experiences, and explore solutions to challenges affecting athletes.
NOA President and former international basketball player, Olumide Oyedeji, said the convention will include a congress on July 23, where key decisions guiding the association’s future will be made in line with its constitution.
The convention will conclude on July 24 with a Dinner and Awards Night themed “The Labours of Our Heroes Past.” The evening will honour outstanding Olympians and their families and reflect on the welfare and recognition of retired athletes. Individuals contributing to youth and sports development in Nigeria will also be recognised.
Previous honourees include Sunday Dare, former Minister of Youth and Sports; Habu Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee; and Philip Shaibu, former Deputy Governor of Edo State and current Director General of the National Institute for Sports.
As part of the activities, the association will visit selected orphanages in Abuja to carry out a humanitarian outreach.
