Amotekun arrests five for kidnapping, attempted murder in Osun

Authorities of the Osun Amotekun Security Corps on Tuesday said that no fewer than five persons have been arrested for alleged kidnapping and attempted murder in the Itapa community of Atakumosa East Local Government Area of Osun State.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, disclosed that the suspects include Ayodele Ogunsola (45), Lekan Adeyeri (35), Ariyo Dare (40), Sunday Adeyeri (54), and Adeyeri Oladele (36).

He said, “On May 29, 2025, at approximately 20:40hrs, we received a distress call from Itapa in Atakumosa East regarding unidentified armed squads in camouflage moving suspiciously around the town with sophisticated weapons.”

Omoyele, who explained that the gang had arrested and unleashed terror on some people in the town, said, “Our operatives responded swiftly, leading to the arrest of the five suspects.”

While others remain at large, he added that the arrested suspects confessed to the crime, just as exhibits, which included one pump-action gun and criminal charms, were recovered from them.

Omoyele also hinted that two armed robbery suspects, namely Shogo Oriade (30) and Asimiyu Toheeb (28), were also apprehended around the Oke Onitea area of Osogbo on May 31, 2025, following a distress call from the people in the area.

“We responded to a distress call about a robbery in progress in the Oke-Onitea area of Osogbo. Although the suspects initially evaded capture, our intelligence team tracked and apprehended them.

“During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the robbery and admitted to having committed similar crimes in the past. Legal proceedings have commenced,” he stated.
