The Lagos State Government has announced the arrest of a Canada returnee, Mr Morufudeen Idowu, for assaulting a personnel of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, otherwise known as KAI.
In a terse statement on Friday, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the 52-year-old resisted arrest after crossing the expressway in the Ojota area of the state.
“He has been taken into custody at Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps office in Oshodi, and will be prosecuted in accordance with the relevant Laws of the state,” Wahab posted on X.
Giving an update, Wahab said, “Following the arrest of Mr Morufudeen Idowu who assaulted one of our personnels and refused arrest while crossing the expressway at Ojota, he was arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting at Oshodi, and sentenced to 3 months imprisonment.”
In another post, the commissioner revealed that an early morning raid by an enforcement team at Isokoko by the railway line led to the arrest of 23 individuals.
He said the individuals, who are now in custody, were caught red-handed dumping refuse on top of critical drainage systems.
He lamented that the selfish act of blocking drains, which leads to flooding, endangers entire communities.
He thanked residents for alerting authorities to their action, just as he vowed that every single one of them will face prosecution.
Wahab also revealed that two individuals were arrested for open defecation at Agege Motor Road by the railway line, adding that eight others were arrested for open urination at Allen, Opebi and Governor’s Road in Alausa.
He said the suspects will all be charged to court in accordance with the relevant laws of Lagos State.
