The Delta State government has pledged to ensure the safety of the 1,802 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state, citing concerns over rising insecurity in some areas.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr ThankGod Trakiriowei, made the assurance yesterday during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Orientation Course for Corps members.
Oborevwori stated that the state was working with security agencies, community vigilantes, and other stakeholders to safeguard the lives and welfare of corps members.
“As you move to your respective duty posts across Delta State, I pray for your divine protection, journey mercies, and success in all your endeavours,” he said.
He added that private sector employers had been encouraged to support the efforts of corps members, particularly through the sponsorship of community development service projects.
The governor also promised that corps members who excel through innovation, dedication, and outstanding service would be duly recognised and celebrated. Earlier, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr John Kwaghe, commended the corps members for successfully completing the orientation course.
He urged them to accept their postings in good faith and integrate quickly into their host communities. Kwaghe encouraged them to foster peaceful and harmonious relationships throughout their service year.
