The Delta State Government said it will recover government lands taken over illegally by land grabbers across the state.
The government, in a statement on Wednesday, said it had repeatedly warned people to stop building on these lands.
The State Government’s Secretary, Dr. Kingsley Emu, said the government warned against unlawful takeovers of its landed properties.
Since the warnings were ignored, the state government will now act to recover the land for its intended development projects, according to Emu.
These projects include the Asaba International Airport and the Delta Free Trade Zone, among many others.
Emu said some people, despite several warnings against incursion into the Airport land, have been observed executing building projects on the land and thereby hindering the construction of a perimeter road for the airport as directed by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.
He warned that the risk to the public good presented by this particular encroachment is enormous and includes a likely consequence of a downgrade or outright ban on the use of the airport by the authority, which he said was unacceptable.
He added that an enforcement team has been constituted and mandated to demolish all such illegal buildings, irrespective of their stages of completion.
This action, Emu said, is apart from other remedies that the government might pursue within the ambit of the law.
