Driver kills 12-year-old student, leaves sister critically injured in Lagos

The Lagos State Government has warned motorists against the persistent violation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes

A 12-year-old female student returning from school was killed by a yet-to-be-identified driver plying the BRT lane at high speed at Ogundare bus stop along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos.

The tragic incident also left the 15-year-old sister of the deceased critically injured.

Both victims, who sustained severe injuries, were rushed to Orile Agege General Hospital for treatment. While the younger girl succumbed to her injuries during treatment, her sister was later transferred to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for further care.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the incident yesterday, stating that a comprehensive investigation had commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

He urged motorists and other road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, including speed limits, to ensure safety on the roads.

The commissioner expressed his condolences to the family of the victims and assured the public that justice would be served.
