The Edo State Government on Tuesday sealed a popular hospitality facility, Eterno Hotel, owned by a political bigwig and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mathew Iduoyekemwen.
The action was carried out on the hotel located in the Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Benin City by the Edo State Development and Building Control Agency (ESDBCA), as evidenced by an official inscription bearing the code 29.425 ESDBCA placed at the hotel premises.
The agency is charged with ensuring compliance with state regulations on planning, development, and building control.
The reason for sealing the hotel owned by Mathew Iduoyekemwen was not formally disclosed by the agency as of press time.
Speaking on the issue, the hotelier and Director General of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Council in the previous Edo Governorship election, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, expressed dismay over the government’s action.
He said, “I don’t know why a state would want to destroy an indigene’s investment. I don’t know whether it is politics they are playing. Last time, they revoked the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of the land.
“I saw it in the papers. This one they are doing now, I don’t know…”
