Eight terror cells begin mass recruitment in Kogi – Sources

Eight terrorist groups under the leadership of the Ansaru Terror Group are already putting up structures in parts of the state.

It was also learnt that the emerging terrorist group is already recruiting willing agents from within and outside Kogi State.

Sources close to the affected communities alleged that Ansaru terror groups are tightening their grip on Kogi State, with eight cells already established.

Ansaru, a breakaway faction of Boko Haram with reported ties to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), has long been designated a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian government and international bodies.

Some of the cells of the terrorist group are already being noticed at Obajana and Kabba in Kogi West and Ogugu village in the Kogi East Senatorial district.

Another source within the locality confirmed that the deteriorating situation along the Obajana-Kabba corridor has become so precarious that dignitaries and high-profile travellers now resort to unofficial arrangements through security agencies to secure safe passage along those routes.

The Guardian also recalled that a few weeks ago, a kidnapped victim in Kabba had his left hand amputated at the wrist by the terrorist group operating in a nearby forest.

It was also learnt that the terrorists groups taking roots in various parts of Kogi State has already overtaken Niger State as the largest terror camps in Nigeria.

Like Kogi West, some other terror groups are already camping in parts of Kogi East Senatorial District, particularly in Olamaboro local government, which shares boundaries with Anambra state.
The next farming season will be a tug-of-war in Kogi State as the terrorists will deprive farmers of accessing their farmland.

Kogi State police commissioner CP Miller Dantawaye, in collaboration with security stakeholders in the state, had to shut down four cattle markets in Kogi West alone due to the activities of suspected bandits who flocked to the markets under the guise of herdsmen.

Police spokesperson SP William Ovye did not respond to enquiries by our correspondent.
