Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has announced that his administration will release ₦5 billion in June to offset outstanding gratuities owed to retirees across Adamawa State.
The governor made the declaration during an appreciation visit by leaders of the Organized Labour at the Government House in Yola, where he reaffirmed his commitment to workers’ welfare and praised the strong partnership between his administration and labour unions.
Fintiri acknowledged initial delays in implementing the new ₦70,000 minimum wage for local government workers due to financial constraints.
He assured that the wage is now in effect for state and local government employees.
Addressing concerns over the exclusion of 11 ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) from the revised wage structure, the governor attributed the situation to outdated salary regulations. He pledged that once the Adamawa State House of Assembly repeals the existing law, the wage structure would be harmonized without delay.
Speaking on behalf of the labour unions, State NLC Chairman Comrade Emmanuel Fashe commended Governor Fintiri for his pro-labour stance and progressive governance.
He lauded the governor’s bold move to implement the new minimum wage without negotiation, describing him as a “visionary leader building a modern Adamawa.”
However, Fashe also drew attention to unresolved issues, including salary inconsistencies in some MDAs and tertiary institutions, as well as pending grievances affecting a group he termed “senior citizens.”
The meeting reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ongoing dialogue and reforms aimed at ensuring fairness, equity, and improved welfare for all workers in the state.
