Fintiri moves to bridge gap in Adamawa workers’ salaries

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has set up a joint committee to ensure that the 11 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) left out of the recent wage increment scheme will soon benefit.

The committee, chaired by the Head of Civil Service, Pharmacist Shehu Isa, was tasked with working alongside key stakeholders to resolve long-standing issues affecting workers and develop sustainable strategies for improving their welfare.

This announcement was made by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, who represented Governor Fintiri during the Workers’ Day celebration held at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Yola.

Farauta reaffirmed the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, acknowledging the tough economic climate and challenges civil servants face.

“Our administration will continue to prioritize timely salary payments and create opportunities for capacity building and human capital development,” she said.

She praised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for its steadfast advocacy, noting, “The NLC’s commitment to justice and fairness in the workplace is laudable. We are committed to building a state where workers are respected and equipped to thrive.”

In his remarks, NLC State Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, decried the rising cost of electricity, exacerbated by the recent band classification of consumers.

He also expressed concern that several MDAs, including the Bureau for Public Procurement, the offices of the Accountant and Auditor-General, and the judiciary and legislature, are yet to benefit from the new wage structure due to statutory constraints.

The celebration featured a colorful march past by various NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) affiliates, with commemorative gifts presented to outstanding participants.
