Four dead, nine injured in auto crash along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

• Two die in multiple road crashes in Abeokuta
The Ogun State Police Command has announced the death of four people in an auto crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in Obafemi Owode Local Council of the state.

The Guardian gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at about 8:35p.m., in the Alapako area of the state.

An eyewitness account, which did not reveal if the driver was on moderate speed or otherwise, stated that the accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus (Reg. No. FKJ 570 YE) travelling from Ibadan inward Lagos.

The Guardian gathered that the left rear tire suddenly punctured by a bad portion of the road, while in motion, causing the driver to lose control, and the vehicle somersaulted and landed off the road.

As a result of the impact, four persons, including the driver, died on the spot, while nine other passengers sustained injuries and the bus was severely damaged.

The Police assisted in controlling traffic to ease movement as well as conducting on-scene video capturing and documentation.

Confirming the incident yesterday, spokesperson for the command CSP Omolola Odutola, said the injured victims were immediately evacuated to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical treatment.

According to her, the remains of the deceased were deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara, for autopsy, while the vehicle wreck has been removed to the station for Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) assessment and further investigation.

She urged motorists to always ensure proper vehicle maintenance and adhere to traffic safety regulations to prevent road mishaps.

Relatedly, one person has been confirmed dead in a multiple crash along Olomore Housing Road, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The Guardian gathered that the incident involved a Toyota Camry with Reg. No. Lagos SMK 303 BX), driven by Ayodeji Oyedele ,’m’, 45 , along with two motorcycles and a tricycle. It occurred at about 8:00p.m., on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Unfortunately, one motorcycle rider, Muhammad Dahuru, ‘m’, 25, lost his life, while three others sustained injuries.

According to Ogun State Police Command, the injured victims were a tricyclist, David Samuel ‘m’, 36, Ajayi Yusuf ‘m’, 29, motorcyclist, and Alhaji Balogun Lekan ‘m’, 50, passenger.

All injured persons were promptly treated and discharged from Daverose Hospital, Olomore, Abeokuta, while the remains of the deceased, Dahuru, were released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites after being confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola said investigations indicated that the accident was caused by reckless and dangerous driving on the part of the Toyota Camry driver.

She stressed that the suspect has been taken into custody, while further investigations are ongoing by the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Ogun State Police Command.

“The accident scene was visited by the police, and a rough sketch was drawn. All accident vehicles have been moved to the station for further inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) to aid the investigation.

“The Ogun State Police Command urges motorists to adhere strictly to road safety regulations to prevent further loss of lives. We assure the public that justice will be served, and further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” she added.

Also, an unidentified female pedestrian was on Sunday, March 9, knocked down while crossing the road due to the recklessness of a motorcyclist along Lafenwa Road, Abeokuta.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 7:00 p.m., involving a TVS motorcycle (Reg. No. Ogun GBE 566 VC) ridden by Kabiru Sanni ‘m’, 25, of Agbo Afoju, Sabo, Abeokuta.

She sustained a severe head injury and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where she sadly passed away while receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the Police visited the scene and drew rough sketches, while the deceased’s body has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and identification.

Also, wreckages of the motorcycle involved have been taken to the station for the VIO assessment, while the reckless motorcyclist has been detained, and the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) conducting further investigations.
