The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has warned motorists against offering bribes to patrol operatives when apprehended for violating traffic regulations. He emphasised that fines must be paid to designated banks, not individuals.
Speaking in Abuja, Mohammed reiterated the FRSC’s zero-tolerance policy for bribery and corruption, stating that such practices go against the Corps’ values, ethics, and standard operating procedures.
“Any motorist found attempting to bribe FRSC personnel will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the Corps’ Establishment Act (2007). The FRSC does not, and will not, tolerate any form of corruption,” he stated.
Mohammed stressed that all fines from patrol operations are paid into the Treasury Single Account, and motorists must comply with the legitimate process for settling fines. “The Corps has had enough of motorists trying to circumvent the law by offering bribes instead of paying fines,” he said.
He further warned FRSC personnel against soliciting bribes and urged the public to report any operative caught engaging in such misconduct. Mohammed commended citizens who report misconduct without resorting to violence and called on all road users to comply with traffic regulations. “The FRSC remains committed to upholding the law with the highest standards of integrity and professionalism,” he said.
