A group, Prayer and Support for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other Security Agencies (PSNAFSA), has condemned the recent terrorist attack on a military base in the Malam-Fatori area of Borno State.
The convener of the group, Mary Abayomi Fatile, in a statement yesterday, described the attack as a “senseless act of violence” that resulted in the loss of at least 20 brave Nigerian soldiers. She noted that the incident is a stark reminder of the daily dangers security agents face.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, was characterised as a cowardly act of terrorism, leaving many families in mourning.
The group offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.
Terrorist groups, specifically the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram, have continued to wreak havoc in Nigeria, targeting security forces and civilians. These groups have shown no regard for human life, leading to widespread destruction and displacement.
Fatile commended the bravery and resilience of the military personnel who repelled the attackers and inflicted significant losses on the terrorists.
She emphasised that the attack serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Borno State, where Boko Haram and ISWAP have been active for over a decade.
The group called on leaders to prioritise the welfare and safety of security agents and citizens over personal interests. They urged Nigerians to demand justice, accountability, and an end to these senseless killings.
The group stressed that unity in supporting the armed forces and security agencies is crucial in the fight against terrorism and insecurity in the nation.
They also noted that the sacrifice of brave security agents and innocent citizens must not be in vain, highlighting the need to fight for a Nigeria where leaders prioritise the people’s welfare.
Accountability was identified as essential in addressing the roots of terrorism in the country, including poverty, inequality, and corruption.
The group concluded by urging the government to take concrete actions to address security challenges and provide answers to the persistent impunity of terrorist groups.
