The Jigawa Government has announced plans to vaccinate over 950,000 livestock as part of the ongoing 2025 annual animal vaccination campaign.
Dr. Mahmud Danyaro, Director of Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday.
According to Danyaro, the vaccination campaign targets 500,000 cattle, 300,000 goats and sheep, and 150,000 chickens.
He explained that the cattle would be vaccinated against Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), the goats and sheep against Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR), and the chickens against Newcastle Disease (NCD).
The director noted that the exercise aims to improve animal health, thereby ensuring the production and consumption of safe meat and milk within and beyond the state.
Danyaro urged livestock owners across Jigawa to present their animals for vaccination to protect them from preventable diseases.
He added that the two-week exercise, which commenced on Tuesday, is being offered free of charge.
