Kaduna governor urges retired soldiers to join fight against terrorism

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has called on all retired military generals from Southern Kaduna to leverage their wealth of experience in combating banditry and terrorism in the state.

Governor Sani emphasized that this is the time for their military expertise to be brought to bear in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across Kaduna State.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to peace, progress, and inclusive governance throughout all regions of Kaduna State, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.

Represented by the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. James Kanyip, Governor Sani expressed solidarity with Southern Kaduna, describing himself as “a partner, listener, and leader committed to equity, fairness, and justice.”

Dr. Kanyip made these remarks during the book launch of Professionalism and Service to Fatherland: The Military Heroes of Southern Kaduna, held at Gwamna Awan Memorial Hall, Kagoro, Kaura LGA, on Saturday.

He highlighted that Governor Uba Sani’s administration has prioritized security as the foundation of effective governance, investing significantly in strengthening security infrastructure. This includes providing logistical support to federal security agencies, initiating peace dialogues in conflict-prone areas, and empowering communities to engage in local vigilance and intelligence sharing.

“But we recognize that military force alone cannot defeat terrorism, banditry, and insurgency. Wisdom and peace dialogues win wars. Retired officers, by virtue of your experience, are custodians of this wisdom,” Dr. Kanyip stated.

He continued, “This is why Governor Uba Sani urges you not to retire from nation-building. Your uniform may be off, but your duty remains. Your insight, experience, and strategic knowledge are still vital.”

“The State Government is ready to listen and collaborate with patriots like you. Your sacrifice must not end in silence. Let it resonate in policy, shape reforms, and guide our future,” he added.

The Commissioner underscored the Governor’s belief in citizen engagement as a pillar of good governance, extending a hand of partnership to the retired military officers in gratitude for their service to God and country.

“Let us walk together toward safer communities, youth empowerment, reconciliation, and building a Kaduna State that works for all,” Dr. Kanyip urged.

He further acknowledged the immense sacrifices of Southern Kaduna’s veterans, saying, “You have given your youth, sweat, and strength. Now, the government asks for your voice, counsel, and continued support.”

Kanyip commended every soldier from Southern Kaduna who has defended Nigeria, saying, “We see you; to those who died in service, we remember you; to those still serving, we pray for you; and to those retired, we still need you. Your names are not just in a book — they are etched in the soul of the nation.”
