Kidnap victims reunite with family as Amotekun thwarts ransom payment

No fewer than five victims abducted in different parts of Ondo State have been rescued by operatives of the State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun Corps, without payment of ransom.

The kidnapped victims were rescued from the den of their captors after the victims’ family members sought the help of the Amotekun in the area after the demand a ₦150 million ransom.

According to the Amotekun commander in the state, four of the victims were kidnapped along the Ore-Ijebu Ode/Lagos motorway in the Odigbo Local Council Area of the state, while one other victim was rescued around Ifon Forest five days after he was abducted at his Upemen residence on the Owo-Ikare road.

The Amotekun boss disclosed that armed kidnappers had demanded ransom from the families of the victims before Amotekun foiled the operations.

While urging residents of the state to always provide timely security information, Adeleye disclosed that Amotekun rangers had been deployed in all the major forests and locations in the state to curb criminality.

He disclosed that over 12 armed robbery and kidnapping cases had been foiled by officials of Amotekun in the state at the Ondo-Ogun state boundary.

One of the rescued victims, Ayo Adeyeye, who narrated the traumatic and harrowing experience while in captivity, revealed that the kidnappers threatened to terminate his life and others’ if the demand for the ransom was not met.

“I was returning home when they stopped us, but my brother ran away before I could stop the motorcycle. They dragged me with them, and we trekked all through the night till the following morning,” Adeyeye said.

“My brother, who escaped, told our people, who combed all the forest with no positive results, and they had to involve Amotekun men, who rescued me with three other victims.

“The kidnappers diverted their movement immediately my brother left; we took the opposite road to avoid being traced, but the Amotekun men and my people were combing the forest where they abducted me.”
