Following rumours about the alleged abduction of Chief Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye, professionally known as King Sunny Ade (KSA), his son and manager, Dayo Adegeye, yesterday dismissed the claims.
The controversy began on Monday evening when his daughter, Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye, made allegations on social media about his alleged kidnapping.
In viral posts, Damilola accused King Sunny Ade’s stepbrother and manager, Dayo, along with other family members, of abducting the music legend. She also detailed his declining health and accused the alleged abductors of exploiting him financially and professionally.
An Instagram user, Olaleye Olawale, amplified Damilola’s claims, stating in a lengthy post that he had attempted to contact the 78-year-old music icon but failed. He explained that a friend later reached out to him on Damilola’s behalf.
According to Olawale, King Sunny Ade’s close associates had repeatedly been unable to reach him. He further alleged that Damilola claimed her father had been unreachable for some time and accused his stepbrother and other relatives of being responsible for his supposed abduction.
Damilola also alleged that the group was forcing King Sunny Ade to agree to multiple performances without delivering on them, thereby tarnishing his reputation. She claimed these individuals controlled his finances to the detriment of his biological children.
Damilola’s concern reportedly intensified after her last conversation with her father, during which he allegedly sounded distressed before the call was abruptly cut off.
The situation sparked public concern, with fans and well-wishers demanding clarification and intervention to ensure the musician’s safety. Responding to the allegations, Dayo Adegeye denied the rumours, describing them as malicious attempts to tarnish the legendary musician’s image. “We want to assure the public that King Sunny Ade is safe and sound. There is no truth to the kidnapping rumours, and we are taking appropriate steps to address the situation and identify those spreading this false information,” he said.
He assured fans that King Sunny Ade was not abducted and emphasised that the Adegeye family and the musician’s team were working diligently to end the rumours and protect his reputation.
“The public can rest assured that King Sunny Ade is in good health and spirits, with his focus remaining on his music and legacy,” he added.King Sunny Ade also addressed the matter on his Instagram page, stating: “Contrary to the falsehood and fabricated news dated April 28, 2025, peddled by Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye and her associates, who declared that I was missing, I hereby state that I, Dr Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye MFR, also known as King Sunny Ade, am alive and well.
