Lagos State government has revealed that N70.2 billion has been paid to 20,956 retirees across all categories in the last six years as pension, while N15.1 billion was paid as pension to 6024 retirees in 2024.
The Head of Service, Lagos State, Mr Bode Agoro, stated this on Wednesday at the ongoing ministerial press briefing to mark the second year and second term of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.
Agoro stated that the governor has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to clearing pension arrears, and the settlement of these pension arrears is a monumental achievement in the Lagos State Public Service, reflecting Mr. Governor’s steadfast dedication to addressing the challenges faced by retirees in the state.
“Additionally, LASPEC, on behalf of the state government, conducted sensitisation programmes for public servants in all five divisions of the state.
“These programmes, held in October and December 2024, supported public servants to provide updated information for processing of their retirement benefits and ensured their records are current with their respective PFAs for seamless pension payment.”
Agoro also said that during the period under review, 1,785 newly-recruited officers in various cadres were uploaded into the Oracle database and thereafter deployed to relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, while 16 political appointees were also uploaded into the database.
“During the period under review, our amiable Mr. Governor approved the appointment of 24 directors GL 17 into the positions of permanent secretaries and tutor-general in the state public service.
“These accounting officers were drawn from the crop of seasoned, proficient, and competent senior management officers who were successful in the 2022 and 2024 screening exercise for appointment into such positions.”
