LASEMA records 468 emergencies in four months

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded to 468 emergencies between January and April 2025. A statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, revealed that there were 108 cases recorded in January, February 122, March 117, and April 121.

Road accidents accounted for the highest number of emergencies with 147 cases, followed by truck/tanker incidents with 110, and fire outbreaks with 94. Other cases included 63 medical emergencies, 10 building collapses, three explosions, two spillages, and one train crash.

In April, road accidents led with 40 cases, followed by fire outbreaks with 25, truck/tanker incidents with 22, and medical emergencies with 13. Additional incidents included windstorms, assaults, and power line faults.

Alimosho and Kosofe Local Councils recorded the highest incidents in April, with 16 each, followed by Eti-Osa and Ikeja Local Councils, which had 13 incidents each.

Badagry, Lagos Mainland, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Councils recorded no incidents during the same period.

The agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit attended 1,031 medical cases, comprising 603 females, 420 males, and eight children. Forty-five deaths were recorded.
LASEMA urged residents to report emergencies promptly to enable quicker response and mitigate the impact of incidents.
