Marwa urges NDLEA personnel to remain steadfast, commissions housing, rehab centre in Kano

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), has urged officers of the agency to remain resolute in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and abuse across the country.

Marwa gave the charge on Saturday, April 19, 2025, during the commissioning of newly constructed terrace flats for personnel of the Zonal Command, Kano Command, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Command, and the Strike Force Team deployed to Kano. A rehabilitation facility was also commissioned.

Describing the development as a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel, Marwa said decent housing plays a critical role in boosting the morale and efficiency of officers.

“A secure and decent home front empowers the spirit, sharpens the mind, and steels the resolve of those tasked with the solemn duty of safeguarding our society from the scourge of illicit drugs,” he stated.

He recalled that the agency commissioned its first-ever barracks in Yola, Adamawa State, in February, and that another in Abuja is ready for commissioning by the President. Similar projects are underway in Lagos and Enugu.

Marwa emphasised that the housing facilities represent more than physical structures; they are symbols of respect, assurance, and commitment to the welfare of personnel.

“The war against drug trafficking is not for the faint-hearted. It demands courage, discipline, and a deep sense of purpose. With improved living conditions, our officers are fortified for this vital mission,” he said.

He acknowledged the sacrifices made daily by NDLEA officers and encouraged them to stay committed to the task of ridding Nigeria of illicit drugs. He also urged those who will occupy the new buildings to maintain the facilities with care and discipline.

Marwa thanked President Tinubu for his continued support and commended all stakeholders who have partnered with the agency in achieving its mandate. He described the event as a milestone in the agency’s journey toward a more resilient and people-focused organisation.
