New Ogun 1 Customs boss warns smugglers to desist from nefarious acts

The new Customs Area Controller for Ogun 1 Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Godwin Otunla has reaffirmed the commitment of the command in its unwavering determination to actualising the core mandates of the Nigeria Customs Service in revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, facilitation of legitimate trade, and protection of national security.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony at the command headquarters in Idiroko, the new Customs boss disclosed that his vision is to consolidate on the gains already recorded and pursue continuous improvement in the areas of efficiency, enforcement, intelligence-led operations, stakeholder collaboration, and community relations.

He stated that as a Customs officer, he is aware of the unique operational environment of Ogun 1 Area Command with its vast borders, dynamic socio-economic activities, and ever-evolving security landscape, economy, and border security.

He assured traditional rulers, community leaders, host communities, and relevant stakeholders of the command’s resolve to continue operating the open-door policy and build on the robust partnerships.

He urged officers and men of the command to remain committed and adhere to ethical conduct and the pursuit of excellence.

The outgoing controller, Mohammed Shuaibu, stated that some difficult decisions had been made during his tenure, which yielded positive results.

He stressed that in the course of taking these decisions, feathers were ruffled, toes were stepped upon, and those decisions were not taken for personal gains but for set targets.

He noted that under his leadership, the Command generated N43,412,794.00 from January to April 2025.
