NMA tasks Okpebholo on improving conditions of Edo health workers

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Edo State Branch on Monday urged Senator Monday Okpebholo to ensure improved working conditions for healthcare workers in the state as he assumes office.
Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State Branch, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, in a statement, congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo on his victory in the Edo State governorship election.
He said, “We wish him a very successful and impactful tenure in office. The Nigerian Medical Association notes the leadership qualities, vision, and commitment of Senator Okpebholo to the development of Edo State, which earned him the mandate.
“We are convinced that he will deploy his vast experience to re-engineer the health sector in particular and the entire state in general.
“As medical professionals and custodians of the health and well-being of Edo people, we hereby restate our commitment to partner with the new administration to improve health care delivery in Edo State.”
He urged the incoming governor to address key areas that require collaborative efforts to improve health infrastructure development, human resource development, capacity building, and access to quality healthcare services, especially by rural dwellers.
The NMA Chairman tasked Okpebholo with strategising on improving working conditions for healthcare workers by strengthening the primary healthcare systems, improving health finance models, and setting up appropriate disease prevention and control measures.
According to him, these will ensure talent retention in the healthcare system and improve our health indices as we aptly emphasised during our recent 2024 Physician’s Week celebration.
“We are convinced that the new administration will work with the leadership of the Nigerian Medical Association in Edo State to harness the talents, knowledge, and passion within our ranks to achieve great things for the people of Edo State,” Oseghale said.
