A loaded tanker caught fire at the Optimal filling station on Wednesday, affecting two buildings behind the station at Kfarm Road, Obawole Iju Station, Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) made this known in a statement on its official X account after its operatives and other officers from various agencies, responded promptly to the scene and worked together to manage the situation.
Fortunately, according to LASTMA’s statement, there were no reported casualties, with the fire successfully extinguished, and traffic within the corridor returning to normal.
“The swift response and collaboration among agencies ensured a safe and efficient resolution to the incident,” LASTMA stated.
Earlier on Wednesday, a petrol-laden tanker caught fire along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, close to the Deeper Life Bible Church and directly in front of the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society
(NASFAT) camp.
The incident led to a gridlock on the expressway, reaching as far as Berger, which forced motorists plying the route to follow one way.
As seen in a viral video on X, the tanker fell while in motion, and burst into flames immediately after tipping over, sending thick smoke into the sky, leading to fear among motorists and residents.
