Police operatives arrested three suspected cultists in Elemoro area of Lagos during their cult meeting on April 26.
The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed the details of their arrest in a statement.
The suspected cultists have been identified as Christopher Amah, Bada Olusesi, and Magaji Yusuf, all aged 28, 38, and 34, respectively.
Hundeyin noted that the suspects were arrested by operatives who were on routine patrol.
“The operatives, while on routine patrol, got wind of an unlawful gathering of about fifteen individuals suspected to be cultists and acted swiftly, closing in on the group and successfully arresting three suspects, while others fled the scene,” the statement read in part.
A defaced Beretta pistol and a locally made pistol loaded with one unexpended cartridge were recovered from the suspects.
While investigations are going on, the police are working towards arresting the fleeing suspects.
The police spokesperson also expressed the Police Commissioner’s commitment to eradicating cultism in the state.
“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reiterates his unwavering resolve to stamp out cultism across the state. He emphasizes that under his leadership, there would be no hiding place for cultists,” Hundeyin noted.
