Police crack down on bandits in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has cracked down on bandits in Agwa following the disturbances in the community on Wednesday.

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, in a statement by the command’s spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye, on Thursday deployed tactical units, equipped with the available resources and intelligence to work closely with other security agencies and local vigilantes, to track down the bandits.

Okoye added that the recent disturbances in Agwa regrettably caused three casualties and a few injuries.

“Consequently, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations has launched a well coordinated search operation across targeted locations, including forest areas and suspected hideouts. This effort aims to swiftly apprehend those responsible and ensure they face justice,” the police spokesman stated.

Okoye said in addition to the operational response, the CP has strongly condemned the violence and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out a thorough investigation to apprehend the culprits.

He said CP Danjuma has further extended his deepest condolences to the families affected and assured residents of Agwa and neighbouring communities that the situation is fully under control, with enhanced security measures put in place to prevent any recurrence.

The Imo State Police Command has, therefore, urged the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear, reassuring that security has been significantly strengthened.

It also appealed to anyone with useful information to assist the investigation by reporting to the nearest police station or contacting the dedicated hotline at 08034773600.
