The Ogun State Police Command said it has developed an operational order to ensure adequate security during and after the Ramadan holiday.

Muslims nationwide will celebrate Eid-el-Fitri with festivities that include picnics, visits to tourist spots, and gatherings with friends and family.

To make the holiday crime-free, revellers, guests, and residents are urged by the Police to remain vigilant, prioritise their safety, report suspicious activities and be cautious of strangers or scams that may target unsuspecting individuals to defraud them.

In a statement yesterday, a spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the public can expect to see queues at designated checkpoints with police officers conducting stop-and-search operations in various locations.

These locations, she said, include Onigarri, Ayetoro, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Long Bridge, Alapako, Ogunmakin, and the Abeokuta area.

Divisional Police Officers, under the supervision of Area Commanders, will be on patrol in their respective jurisdictions.

According to her, border towns will experience joint task force operations in collaboration with extended sister security agencies for continuous surveillance and stop-and-search patrols.

“All these initiatives by the Command aim to facilitate safe travel and celebration, and the public is further encouraged to support security efforts for better effectiveness.

“Given the anticipated influx of visitors in Ogun State for the festivities, there can be no better time for Ogun State Police Command to solicit patience as thorough security checks will be conducted.

“Conventional and anti-riot Police Officers will be visibly stationed at prayer grounds and strategically positioned to prevent attacks and deter criminal activity .

“Specialised units focused on anti-cultism, anti-kidnapping, and tactical operations will also be present in tertiary institutions, where student cooperation is essential, especially those who may not have processed their break.

“For emergency assistance, please contact the command,” Odutola stated.

MEANWHILE, the Lagos State Command of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has deployed 2,250 personnel to ensure safety and security during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

According to the state Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, the deployment aims to protect national assets and infrastructures like recreational centres, and critical infrastructure.

Keshinro emphasised that the NSCDC is committed to preventing economic sabotage and vandalism during the celebration.

He also warned criminal elements to desist from their nefarious activities or face the full wrath of the law.

“This deployment shows the NSCDC’s commitment to the efforts of the government to ensure a safe and secure environment during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, which marks the end of the one-month-long Ramadan fasting.

“The NSCDC has assured residents of Lagos State that it will work tirelessly to protect lives and property before, during and after the celebration,” he said.
