The Sokoto State government has procured over 140 patrol vehicles to bolster security operations and tackle banditry and related challenges across the state.
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Alhaji Isa Sadiq, disclosed this during a press conference held in Sokoto. He said the vehicles have already been distributed to security agencies to enhance their mobility and improve emergency response across various locations.
Sadiq acknowledged that certain local government areas, particularly within the eastern senatorial district, continue to face security threats. However, he noted that Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s administration has taken concrete steps to address the situation and ensure the safety of lives and property.
Among these steps, he said, is the establishment of the Community Guards Corps, a state-backed initiative designed to complement the efforts of traditional security outfits.
According to him, the state government has fully equipped the corps with operational tools and logistics. About 2,600 personnel have undergone professional training and were provided with vital security gear.
To further support the corps’ operations, the government supplied 30 Toyota Hilux vans with comprehensive insurance, and about 800 motorcycles for field mobility.
In addition, the government constructed and furnished operational offices for the Community Guards Corps in all 13 local government areas affected by insecurity.
Sadiq noted that these efforts have already begun yielding positive results, with improved security across affected communities and a gradual return to social and economic activities in areas previously plagued by violence.
He described the interventions as a testament to Governor Aliyu’s commitment to restoring peace and fostering development across the state.
