Technician electrocuted while working on high tension cable in Oyo

Tragedy struck in the Odo Babaode area of Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Council of Oyo State, as a 28-year-old man was electrocuted while attempting to fix an electrical fault.

The victim, whose identity had yet to be disclosed at the time of this report, was said to have been working on a high tension cable belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) without shutting down the feeder supplying power to the line.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as the electrician tried to rectify the fault on the live power line. Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, said the agency received a distress call at 3:29 p.m. and promptly responded to the scene.

According to him, fire service personnel, led by PFS1 Peluola Babatunde, arrived to find the victim already electrocuted. “All necessary precautionary measures were observed to safeguard citizens in the vicinity,” Akinyinka noted. He further stated that the body of the deceased was recovered and handed over to officers from the Eruwa Police Station for further investigation.
