Three factory workers in court for stealing N550,000 soap in Abuja

Three factory workers, Sani Saleh, Margaret Goji and Victoria Timothy, on Wednesday appeared before the Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, charged with stealing Nico soap worth N550,000.

The police charged Saleh, 30; Goji, 38; and Timothy, 32; all employees of Amigu Plastic, Idu Industrial Area, Abuja, with criminal conspiracy and theft by servant.

The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that one Mr Zheng Jilong of the same address reported the matter at the Kado Police Station on April 5.

Nwachukwu said that on April 4, while the complainant’s wife was watching the factory’s CCTV footage, she discovered that the defendants made away with Nico soap worth N550.

The prosecutor said that the defendants made away with the said soap without the consent of the complainant.

Nwachukwu said that during the police investigation, the defendants made a confessional statement and the stolen item was recovered from them.

The prosecutor told the court that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 97 and 289 of the Penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N 100,000 each and with one surety each in like sum.

He, thereafter, Adjourned the matter till May 29 for hearing.
