Three injured as speeding car somersaults on Osun expressway

Three persons were severely injured on Thursday after a car en route to Ondo State somersaulted on the Apomu-Gbongan expressway in Osun State.

According to a statement released by the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Osun State Command, Agnes Ogungbemi, on behalf of the Osun Sector Commander, Leye Adegboyega, the cause of the crash was excessive speeding.

Ogungbemi explained that one of the tyres of the black-coloured Toyota Corolla with registration number KRD663GT burst, thus propelling the car to somersault into a bush.

She added that it was raining when the lone accident happened at Apomu Junction around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.

She said the occupants of the crashed private car were four females and two males, noting that the three injured persons were females.

The FRSC official disclosed that the vehicle was travelling to Ondo State before it veered off the road and rammed into a bush, adding that it took officials about ten minutes to get to the crash scene and rescue the victims.

On the action taken by the corps, she said, “The injured victims were taken to Dove Hospital, Ikire, while the accidented vehicle was towed away.

“The sector commander warns the motoring public to shun excessive speeding and drive with care, especially now that the rainy season is here with us.”
