Tiv youths want Tinubu to end killings, others in Nasarawa

As President Bola Tinubu visits Nasarawa State on Wednesday to commission Governor Abdullahi Sule’s legacy projects in Lafia, a Tiv youth group has called on him to end the incessant attacks, killing of Tiv extraction and land grabbing in the state.

The Tiv Youth Organisation (TYO) made the appeal at a press briefing on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.

In his address, Comrade Isaiah Audu decried the persistent attacks that have left many Tiv communities in ruins, with scores of lives lost, farms abandoned, and survivors living in fear and destitution.

According to the TYO President, the latest wave of violence occurred on Thursday, June 13 and Sunday, June 15, 2025, affecting multiple villages across four local government areas (LGAs).

The Tiv communities affected, according to the TYO president, include Dooga Ayande in Doma LGA, Antsa in Keana LGA, Tse Yange in Obi LGA, and Tse Akura in Giza Area Administrative Council. These attacks reportedly resulted in the killing of several Tiv farmers, including Mr. Terfa Tswabee, Mr. Sham Kyodo, Zaki Kwaghtagher Ordue, and Teryem Aondo Apav. Several others sustained injuries, while many families have since fled their ancestral homes.

“These senseless and brutal killings have left families traumatised, communities shattered, and a palpable sense of fear gripping our rural populace,” the TYO president lamented.

The youth group described the violence as a deliberate attempt to terrorise and displace indigenous Tiv communities in the state, warning that the continued occupation and grazing on abandoned farmlands by the attackers could lead to severe food insecurity in 2026.

The Tiv youths commended the efforts of Governor Sule, the security agencies, local government chairmen, and traditional rulers in Doma, Keana, Obi, and Awe LGAs toward restoring calm.

The group, however, expressed deep dissatisfaction as “armed herdsmen continue to attack our people, graze freely on abandoned farms, snatch motorcycles, and harass innocent Tiv farmers at gunpoint, especially in the southern parts of the state.”

The TYO then put forward the following demands to the state and federal authorities:

TYO wants President Tinubu to order an Immediate and impartial investigation into the recent attacks to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.

They also appeal for the immediate deployment of security personnel to vulnerable Tiv communities to ensure the safe return of thousands of displaced persons.
