Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have killed two armed hoodlums who attacked a police checkpoint at Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area.
The attack occurred on Thursday evening when the hoodlums, reportedly in large numbers, laid siege to the area from a nearby bush before launching an assault on the checkpoint.
A fierce gun duel ensued, lasting several hours and causing panic among residents.
One police officer was fatally wounded during the clash, and one security operational vehicle was set ablaze by the attackers. The hoodlums eventually fled the scene, abandoning a Toyota Sienna vehicle.
Anambra police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident and stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
He said normalcy has since been restored to the area, with increased security presence deployed.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the criminal activities and pledged continued collaboration between security forces and citizens to eradicate crime in the state.
